Kid-Speak

Here are a few new words and conversations from around our house.

“Canamul” (you know, they’re brown, have humps, live in the desert and eat each other).  Foofie was coloring some canamuls in her workbook yesterday.

Here’s another one that’s not new, but I wanted to make sure I got it recorded for posterity.  I always thought they just got the words reversed and were saying “hanger coats”.  However, their vocabulary was much more functional than I realized.  They were actually saying “hang-yer coats”.  Which explains why they were so resistant to reversing the words; “coat hang-yers” makes so much less sense (unless you’re Yoda).

Foofie was going potty before bed last night.
Foofie: (pointing to the plunger sitting next to the toilet) I hope the beach has one of these.
Mama: (puzzled – I never catch on to Foofie’s logic at first pass) What do you mean?
Foofie: Well, I hope the beach has one in case I start to fall off of the potty.
Mama: (still not totally understanding, but guessing that this could be amusing) Why is that?
Foofie: Well, one time when we were at the beach, I had to go potty and I started to fall off the potty and I looked around for one of these and they didn’t have one, so I just had to use the wall to get me back on the potty.
[OK, so “the beach” means “the beach house we stayed at in November”.  And, apparently she has always thought that the purpose of a plunger is to have a stick nearby to give you leverage should you start to slide off the potty.]
