Henry Strikes Again

A few weeks ago, Matt went on a business trip.  The following week while he was gone at work, Henry looked out the window and saw an airplane.

Henry:  Oh, look!  I think that's Daddy's plane!
Mama: No, Henry, Daddy is not on that plane.  He's at work.
Henry: Oh.  Well, I hope some day Daddy will take us on his plane.  I think his plane will have TV and pizza.

Yesterday, Joseph was wearing overalls.

Henry: Oh, Joseph looks like a farm!

Today our Pastor's wife was at our home.  Henry wanted her to toss the ball with him.

Henry (throwing her the ball): Fetch, Mrs. Bullock!

Oh, my.  Never a dull day with Henry!

Henry to the Rescue.

Hazel was playing in her Pack n' Play and dropped a toy.  Henry ran over and handed it back to her.

Hazel: Oh thank you, Henny!
Henry: Hazel, you were rescued by the rescuer!  You just call me whenever you need trouble!

Even More Henry

Henry was playing with a stuffed sea turtle.  He was making it “woosh” through the school room.

Mama: Henry, is that sea turtle flying?
Henry:  No.  He is fishing.  This is what fish do.  Under the water.  They are fishing.

Flying is what a fly does.  Fishing is what a fish does.

More Henry

Henry was at the table making fake boo-hoo noises.

Henry: I’m cryin’ like a woman.
Mama: What did you say, Henry?
Henry: I said I’m fussin’ like a woman!

Wonder what it sounds like to fuss like a man?

Who is it?

Henry came up to me wearing a blanket over his head.

Mama: Hello, Henry.
Henry: It is not me.  It is somebody else.

Catching Up ...

Apparently I’ve been busier with the camera than with the blog.  I have a lot of little albums of photos that I haven’t shared yet, so consider this a “digest” version of the Sutherland Family Adventures in reverse chronological order …

My brother Ben is getting married in June.  He has asked Henry to be the Ring Bearer.  When we told him this, he said, “Oh, I LOVE ringdeer!”  However, he assures me, “But I’m not going to grow up to be a ringdeer”.  Today he got to try on his suit for the first time.  Super handsome.  (If you think this one is cute, you should see the other photos in the album!)  Just a while ago, Henry was so sleepy he laid down on the kitchen floor and started to drift off to sleep.  I asked him if he wouldn’t be more comfortable on the sofa.  He agreed and on his way to the sofa he said, “Can I just put on my suit?  That would be so cozy for sleeping in.”

This is a crib that has been in our family for a long while and is now in use as Joseph’s alternate sleeping location in Luke’s room.  These photos commemorate both the use of the crib … and the discovery that Joseph has joined the thumb-sucking contingent of siblings.

Nana came over last Wednesday to give Luke and Henry haircuts.  We decided it was time for Hazel to have a trim, too.  Now she’s sporting a sassy new look.  (Also in this album are some “Hello, Papa!” pictures Nana took on her visit.)

Big brother got everyone set to listen to a CD … while managing to snuggle Joseph at the same time!

Joseph also spends plenty of time snuggling with his Emma!

Way back when, I took a video of Foofie singing “The Sunshine Song” (as we call it).  Hazel LOVES to watch that video.  Henry decided he wanted to do a cover of that song.  The first video is his version.  The second video is … complete silliness.

I realize that I haven’t yet posted any pictures from Joseph’s birth and early days.  Those are coming soon!

Gender Constructs

Henry (to Joseph): Hi, Henry!
Mama: Yea, he’s like a mini-Henry, isn’t he?
Henry: No!  He’s like a Mickey-Henry!

New Henry-isms

Mama, I want to be inside because when I’m outside, the sunshine makes my eyes go to fweep [sleep].

This board game makes me boring.

Fan-tas-gick!

Why Joseph, What Eyes Do You Have!

Henry: What if Joseph didn’t have any ears?
Mama: Well, then he couldn’t hear you when you say, “I love you, Joseph!”
Mama: And if he didn’t have any eyes, he couldn’t see you when you smile at him!
Henry: And if he didn’t have any nose then he couldn’t make any boogers or snot!
Henry: And if he didn’t have a head or a face then he just wouldn’t have no head or no face!

Obedient Opposites

This morning Henry climbed up into the top bunk with Luke.  After a bit, we had this conversation:

Mama: Boys, it’s time to go downstairs now.  Please come quickly.
Luke: OK, Mama, I’m getting up now.
Henry (with quite a self-righteous tone) Well, I’M getting DOWN!
